Rhode Island Lottery

The Rhode Island Lottery was created through a constitutional amendment in 1973 which led to the passing of legislation the following year. Unlike many US states, its purpose was not to fund education. Instead, the intention was to raise money relating to automobile taxation. The scope has changed somewhat over the years with the State General Fund distributing money to good causes in education, health care, the environment and public safety. Currently, there are only three multi-state games offered: Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lucky for Life.
