Ireland Lottery
Ireland’s National Lottery is administered by Premier Lotteries Ireland (PLI) which was awarded a 20-year licence in 2014. Operations began in 1987 after the Republic of Ireland government passed the National Lottery Act 1986. Scratch-cards went on sale first followed by the draw-based lotto game a year later. One of the main goals was to generate money for good causes and to this end the Ireland lottery has raised almost€5 billion to date, with funding going to projects in the areas of art, culture, health and sport.
